I would lerve to know where Sean Penn found the method inspiration for this character. Deceptively heavy at times, this story ultimately reveals itself as a basic redemption film. If you choose to watch it, you'll realize I've given absolutely nothing away (and yes, I also hit rewind a few times). All in all, it scratches an artsy-fartsy itch, but little else. Quick but worthy side note, Frances McDormand once again exceeds par.
This is a movie to watch while you slit your wrists. It would definitely push you to that point. It's the longest most drawn out depressing piece of film out there and should come with a health warning for depressives and emos. Whoever did Sean Penns make up and hair made him look like a drag queen. I did like the character, the way he played the tennis table and some of the things he said.
Never thought id say this, but Sean Penns acting ruined this entire movie. He acted like a retard not an ex washed up goth rocker. At times you almost question if he is burnt out or just nothing more than a mongoloid. It waqs just so peplexing and unrealistic that i couldnt even take the movie seriously.
Style: nicely shot Acting; Good plot: meandering going nowhere Message: Humans are all sociopaths at heart Pace: Boring.. sends you to sleep..
Personally I think the message is utter B******S. Humans are not inherently sociopathic and evil, nor is God 'cool' about sociopaths.. so yeh I take offence at the shi**y new world order message crowbarred into this film.. but what do you expect from pentagon-financed hollywood.. whatever..
Never thought the band playing i passed by at Blanchardstown Shopping Center was already part of the movie... Sean Penn Rocks! Made in Ireland, yo all Irish must be proud of this movie.
